Victor Wembanyama is apparently a big fan of his fellow Rookie of the Year.
In a video feature that was released on Friday, the San Antonio Spurs star Wembanyama was asked to name a player in the WNBA who inspires him. Wembanyama landed on Indiana Fever sensation Caitlin Clark.
“When she was in college, [she was] the only player that I was really in awe of the game [of],” said Wembanyama of Clark. “Men’s and women’s college basketball [combined], she’s probably the most impressive I’ve seen.”
Here is the full video of Wembanyama’s comments.
Wembanyama, 20, and Clark, 22, are easily the hottest phenoms in their respective leagues. Both players were No. 1 overall picks in 2023, and both players went on to win Rookie of the Year on the strength of mind-bending debut seasons (21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks per game for Wemby and 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 8.4 assists a game for Clark).
As such, it is fitting that Wembanyama has a lot of respect and appreciation for what Clark has been doing. Unfortunately for Clark though, that is not always the case within her own league (as evidenced by the fact that she recently got screwed out of a unanimous WNBA Rookie of the Year win).
