When a song climbs all the way to No. 1 on the country charts, it’s a huge win for both the artist and the songwriters behind the hit. So, what kind of appreciation does a chart-topping artist like Jason Aldean show to the talented individuals who penned one of his biggest tracks?
In an exclusive interview on Taste of Country Nights, host Evan Paul didn’t shy away from asking John Morgan, the incredibly successful songwriter behind Aldean’s “Trouble With a Heartbreak” (and a staggering 15 other songs for the star!), about the perks of writing a No. 1 hit. The burning question: did Aldean gift him anything special for the massive success of the heartbreak anthem? Was it the typical industry “thank you” – maybe a watch, or even the coveted (but often joked about) car?
Morgan, sporting a Night Train Ranch trucker hat (Aldean’s own brand), chuckled and admitted that while he hasn’t received a shiny new vehicle just yet, Aldean has shown his appreciation in other significant ways. “Uh, I haven’t got a watch yet, I’ll make sure he knows that that’s on the list,” Morgan joked. “He gave me this hat, that was pretty cool.”
But the gifts didn’t stop there. Morgan revealed a more substantial token of gratitude: “He gave me a little bonus when I signed [to his label], so I’m milking that still.”
However, the most invaluable “gift” of all seems to be the mentorship and opportunities Aldean has provided.
