Scoring just three points on 1/9 from the field and 0/6 from three, Clark could not get anything going offensively. Connecticut Sun All-Star DeWanna Bonner was tasked with the Clark assignment in the first half of this game. The ESPN broadcast reported that Clark missed all seven of her field goal attempts with Bonner as her primary defender in the first half.
Bonner is a six-time WNBA All-Star and two-time WNBA champion. Also a former second-team All-Defensive star, Bonner is known for her ability to impact the game on both ends.

Interviewed on the ESPN broadcast at halftime, Bonner was asked about her defense on Clark. Showing a lot of respect for the star rookie, Bonner knocked on wood before praising her opponent.

Bonner added that Connecticut knows who Indiana plays through, and she wants to do the best job she can on Clark. “I know she’s gonna come out the second half ready to go,” Bonner said. “So I gotta key in.” Clark really struggled to find her shot in the first half of this game, and while some of that can be attributed to Bonner’s defense, many of Clark’s misses were on clean looks.

The WNBA playoffs are much different than the regular season, but Clark is certainly no stranger to big games. Playing in several big games while at Iowa, Clark has experienced some intense battles. Indiana will need Clark to find her shot if they want to eliminate the Sun.
