Deion Sanders, also known as “Coach Prime,” has secured a massive five-year, $54 million contract extension with the University of Colorado. This deal makes him one of the highest-paid coaches in college football. Sanders’ annual salary will increase to $10 million in 2025 and 2026, followed by $11 million in 2027 and 2028, and finally $12 million in 2029.
The contract extension is a testament to Sanders’ impressive turnaround of the Colorado Buffaloes program. Since taking over in 2022, he has led the team to a 13-12 record, including a 9-4 season in 2024 that ended with a trip to the Alamo Bowl. Sanders’ success has not gone unnoticed, with many considering him a top candidate for NFL coaching positions.
Colorado athletic director Rick George praised Sanders, saying, “Coach Prime has revolutionized college football and, in doing so, has restored CU football to its rightful place as a national power”. With this new contract, Sanders is committed to staying with the Buffaloes through the 2029 season.
