Realistic Expecations for WVU Football Under Rich Rodriguez in 2025

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — West Virginia University is finalizing a deal to make Rich Rodriguez the next head coach of the Mountaineers and expectations will never be higher than they will be in 2025! It’s been a long time since West Virginia has had a football team that wins consistently, but there are a lot of reasons why the Mountaineers will be great in 2025:

Rich Rodriguez is a winner: In only his 3rd season with Jacksonville State, Rodriguez won the Conference USA Championship. While at West Virginia, he went 60-26 and the Mountaineers were 11-1, 11-2 and 10-2 in his final three seasons. The man is a winner and West Virginia should expect to win big from this point forward. The days of Neal Brown are over.

West Virginia will finally have real NIL money: The Country Roads Trust will see a huge uptick in donations now that West Virginia has a winner as its head coach. In addition, West Virginia’s wealthiest and most influential people, such as Jim Justice, Joe Manchin, Ike Morris, David Alvarez, Ken Kendrick, Pat McAfee and a whole host of former players will now financially support the program. In a world where money matters, West Virginia will now have a healthy budget to go after the top athletes in college football.

West Virginia returns a lot of talent: Yes, the Mountaineers will lose a lot of players this season, but they also return ultra-talented starting quarterback Nicco Marchiol (who is 4-0 and has proven that he can do it all), running backs Jahiem White and CJ Donaldson, as well as Hudson Clement. Linebacker Josiah Trotter, who recently entered the transfer portal, posted a picture of Rich Rodriguez and took down any mention of transferring on his social media after learning of the Rodriguez hire. West Virginia will have to fix the defense, particularly the secondary, but again, he will have the NIL money to make that happen now.

Excitement is back in Morgantown: The Mountaineers open the season with games at home against Robert Morris, on the road against Ohio and then back at home for the Backyard Brawl against Pitt! Can you imagine Milan Puskar Stadium on 9/13 against the hated Pitt Panthers with Rich Rodriguez back on the sidelines? This will likely be the most sought-after ticket in the history of Mountaineer Field and the crowd will be absolutely wild! Winning football is back in Morgantown, West Virginia, and the Mountaineers are officially back!
