Penn State’s football program has bolstered its roster for the 2025 season by securing commitments from two standout wide receivers via the transfer portal.

Former Troy University wide receiver Devonte Ross announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions on December 24, 2024. Ross, standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 161 pounds, had an impressive season with the Trojans, recording 76 receptions for 1,043 yards and 11 touchdowns. His performance earned him first-team All-Sun Belt honors as a receiver and second-team recognition as a return specialist. With three seasons of experience and one year of eligibility remaining, Ross is expected to make an immediate impact on Penn State’s offense.

In addition to Ross, Penn State has added former USC wide receiver Kyron Hudson to its receiving corps. Hudson’s experience and skill set are anticipated to enhance the team’s passing game, providing quarterback Drew Allar with additional targets downfield.

These acquisitions come at a crucial time, especially following the departure of backup quarterback Beau Pribula, who entered the transfer portal earlier this month. Pribula’s decision to transfer was influenced by Allar’s commitment to remain at Penn State for the 2025 season, delaying his NFL aspirations.

Head coach James Franklin expressed enthusiasm about the new additions, stating that the influx of talent through the transfer portal positions the Nittany Lions for a competitive run in the upcoming season. The team is currently preparing for its Fiesta Bowl matchup against Boise State on December 31, 2024, following a decisive 38-10 victory over SMU in the first round of the College Football Playoff
