Panthers lock up boom centre with extension; Eels recruit rising stars — Transfer Centre

The Penrith Panthers have locked up boom centre Paul Alamoti with a two-year contract extension keeping him at the club until the end of 2027 at least.

“Penrith Panthers is pleased to announce the contract extension of international outside back Paul Alamoti,” the club said in a statement.

Already contracted with the Panthers for next season, Alamoti has extended his deal until the end of the 2027 NRL season.

The 20-year-old outside back made his first grade debut in 2023 and has played 35 NRL games across two seasons.

Since joining Panthers at the start of 2024, he scored eight tries and kicked 18 goals in 16 matches, playing a key role in the Panthers’ premiership success, including scoring a try in the grand final.

Following an impressive season, Alamoti made his Test debut for Tonga last Friday night against Australia at Suncorp Stadium.

The Milperra Colts junior was selected in the Australian Schoolboys merit team in 2019 and represented New South Wales in the Under-19s State of Origin in 2022.

“We’re pleased to have Paul commit to Panthers until the end of 2027,” Panthers General Manager of Football Shane Elford said.

“Paul is an exceptionally talented and respectful young man, both on and off the field.”

EELS RELEASE VETERAN FLYER AND RECRUIT BOOM DUO

The Eels have confirmed winger Maika Sivo has been released from his contract for the 2025 season, ending his 115-game tenure in Parramatta while two young guns have been signed.

Sivo, 31, had three years remaining on his deal but will reportedly make a move to the Super League, joining Brad Arthur and the Leeds Rhinos.

In a statement, the Eels said: “Over his 115 NRL games with the Club he has brought excitement, power, and become a fan favourite with the Blue and Gold Army.

“We thank him for his dedication and service to the Eels.”

The Fijian flyer scored 104 tries for the Eels, winning the competition’s top try-scorer in his debut season in 2019.

“We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Maika, his partner Korina, and his family for their time with us,” Eels general manager of football Mark O’Neill said.

“We wish them all the very best in their future endeavors, both in rugby league and beyond.”

The Eels also announced the signings of Joash Papalii and Jordan Samrani, while Matt Doorey has been extended until the end of 2026.

The new pair have both been handed two-year deals, with both making a cross-town move from the Bulldogs.

“Joash is an incredibly exciting young talent who possesses great speed and agility. He has previously represented Australian Schoolboys and NSW Under 19s and will add great depth to our NRL playing squad,” Eels general manager Mark O’Neill said.

“Jordan is a big man, predominantly an outside back who can also add versatility to our squad.

“He has already shown great promise and we’re excited to see how he further develops within our program.”
