In a thrilling conclusion to their weekend series, the #12 Arkansas softball team secured a 2-1 victory over Kentucky, thanks to Ella McDowell’s sixth-inning solo home run. This win marked Arkansas’ first SEC series sweep since March 31-April 2, 2023, when they swept Mississippi State.
The game was a nail-biter, with both teams displaying exceptional skill and determination. McDowell’s game-winning homer was a highlight of the game, but it wasn’t the only impressive performance. Reagan Johnson had a standout game, tying a single-game season-high with three hits, while also stealing two bases and scoring a run.
Payton Burnham earned the win in relief, pitching three shutout innings with a strikeout and just two hits and two walks allowed. The Razorbacks’ strong performance was also reflected in their defensive play, as they didn’t commit a single error throughout the series.
With this series sweep, Arkansas now leads the all-time series with Kentucky, 40-28, and owns a 23-13 advantage in games played in Fayetteville. The Razorbacks will look to continue their winning ways in SEC play as they face Florida in a three-game series on April 4-6.
The series sweep is a testament to the team’s hard work and dedication, and they will undoubtedly look to build on this momentum as they move forward in the season.
