LSU football adds an Oklahoma transfer who’s one of the top wide receivers in portal

Oklahoma transfer wide receiver Nic Anderson is transferring to LSU as the team continued to address one of its primary needs in the offseason.

Anderson announced his decision Tuesday night, and LSU confirmed he signed his paperwork. Anderson, a 6-foot-4, 216-pound sophomore, has three years of eligibility and was considered one of the top available players in the transfer portal.

As a redshirt freshman two years ago, Anderson recorded 31 catches for 798 yards and 10 touchdowns, which set an Oklahoma freshman record. He missed almost the entire 2024 season this fall because of an injury.

LSU wanted to add multiple transfer wide receivers to bolster the position, and now it has two of the top available in the portal. Former Kentucky wide receiver Barion Brown and Anderson were ranked as the No. 7 and No. 11 overall transfers by ESPN, respectively. LSU also has a commitment from former Florida State receiver Destyn Hill.

A four-star recruit in the 2022 class out of Katy, Texas, Anderson appeared in three games his first season with the Sooners. He turned into a productive downfield target and was expected to help lead Oklahoma’s receiving corps this season.

After missing the first three games, Anderson briefly returned Sept. 21 against Tennessee before reaggravating an injury. He did not play the rest of the year.

The nature of Anderson’s injury is vague. Oklahoma coach Brent Venables told reporters that Anderson suffered a quadriceps injury, but ESPN recently described the issue as a hip injury.

Anderson is the second Oklahoma player to transfer to LSU this offseason after tight end Bauer Sharp.

Next year, Anderson will be expected to compete for significant playing time. LSU can return two wide receivers who had more than five catches during the regular season in redshirt sophomore Aaron Anderson and junior Zavion Thomas. It also has speedy redshirt junior Chris Hilton and redshirt freshman Kyle Parker, both of whom missed the majority of the season because of injuries.
