Historic College Football Program Loses 15 Players to NCAA Transfer Portal

At college football’s highest levels, student-athletes must compete and jockey for more playing time. This is especially true in today’s NIL world, where opportunities at the best schools can earn players hefty sums. Compared to the Alabama Crimson Tide, few programs likely experience such a battle to stand out and be the best.

That’s why Alabama has seen 15 players enter the transfer portal’s first window, per On3Sports transfer portal rankings.

Of those 15, 13 players are former four-star recruits. With so many highly rated recruits departing the team, On3 has Alabama ranked 64th out of 70 in its portal rankings.

The highest-rated recruits to transfer have been running back Justice Haynes, linebacker Keanu Koht and wide receiver Emmanuel Henderson.

All three players have already committed to play elsewhere.

Another key piece transferring out is wide receiver Caleb Odom, who committed to Ole Miss on December 18. On3 rated him a four-star transfer recruit.

It’s important to remember players can withdraw from the transfer portal and return to their former teams, so several players may still return.

The two highest-rated recruits transferring into the program are EDGE Kelby Collins, a former four-star recruit from the 2023 recruiting class of the Florida Gators, and interior offensive lineman Kam Dewberry, a former four-star recruit from the 2022 recruiting class of the Texas A&M Aggies.

The Crimson Tide play the Michigan Wolverines in the ReliaQuest Bowl on New Year’s Eve. Last year, Alabama suffered an overtime loss to Michigan in the Rose Bowl, the semifinal round of the College Football Playoff.
