Thousands of protesters gathered across the United States under the banner of the “Hands Off!” movement to voice their opposition to President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk. Demonstrations took place in numerous cities, including Washington, D.C., New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco, forming part of a coordinated response to what critics describe as increasing authoritarianism and tech-driven overreach within the Trump administration.

The movement was sparked by concerns over sweeping governmental changes initiated by President Trump in his current term, which many believe are undermining democratic institutions, civil liberties, and the independence of key agencies. Elon Musk, who has taken on a more active advisory role in the administration, has also faced criticism for his influence on policy, particularly in areas involving data privacy, artificial intelligence, and federal restructuring.

Protesters marched with signs such as “Hands Off Our Democracy,” “Tech Billionaires Are Not Leaders,” and “Stop the Power Grab,” expressing anger over what they see as a dangerous concentration of political and technological power. Organizers emphasized the importance of public resistance and democratic engagement, calling on lawmakers, institutions, and voters to take a stand before it’s too late.

What makes this wave of protests especially notable is the global solidarity it has inspired. Similar demonstrations occurred in major European cities, including Berlin, Frankfurt, London, Paris, and Lisbon. In Berlin, protesters even gathered outside a Tesla showroom to voice their opposition to Musk’s growing influence both in the U.S. government and on the global stage.

The “Hands Off!” movement is being led by a coalition of progressive organizations, activists, and concerned citizens who believe that the current trajectory of American politics is heading toward increased authoritarianism. Their demands include restoring democratic checks and balances, protecting personal data, and reducing the influence of corporate billionaires in government decision-making.

The protests signal a growing unease among the public, not only with the Trump administration’s policies but also with the broader implications of tech-industry involvement in politics. As demonstrations continue, organizers are planning further actions and encouraging international coordination to push back against what they call a global threat to democracy.
