College football is in new day and age. With the rise of the transfer portal and NIL opportunities, players are being offered lucrative deals to leave one school for another. On top of that, athletes considering the NFL draft are receiving enticing offers to transfer instead, giving them a chance to boost their draft stock while cashing in.
On Tuesday, Pete Nakos of On3 reported that “if the Texas quarterback (Quinn Ewers) were to return to college football and enter the portal, he would be one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in college football history.”
Nakos didn’t stop there. He then revealed that an unnamed school has offered Ewers $6 million to stay in college football and transfer to them, rather than declare for the NFL.
“Sources told On3 that Ewers has received a $6 million offer to return and enter the portal,” Nakos added.
The news caught the attention of one of his former teammates, Washington Huskies wide receiver Johntay Cook. Cook, who left Texas in early November after a “mutual” decision, announced just last Saturday that he was bringing his five-star talent to Washington via the transfer portal.
After Cook saw how much Ewers was being offered, he took a shot at his former quarterback on social media.
“wasting yall money fr,” he wrote before deleting the post shortly after.
Ewers has yet to announce intentions for next season. However, he did partake in Texas’ senior day on Nov. 23.
In 2024 he’s accumulated 2,867 yards, 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
