Auburn football made another move in the transfer portal at a position of need on Friday, landing former Maryland tight end Preston Howard.
Howard announced his commitment in a post on Instagram.
Tight end became a position of need for Auburn following the departures of Rivaldo Fairweather, Luke Deal and Micah Riley. Howard brings two years of Power Four experience, catching 37 passes for 349 yards and a touchdown during his Maryland career. That one touchdown came in Maryland’s Music City Bowl win over Auburn in 2023.
Howard now becomes Auburn’s 13th incoming transfer overall and third newcomer to the tight end room, joining freshmen Ryan Ghea and Hollis Davidson.
A three-star recruit out of high school, Howard was ranked as the No. 464 overall player in the country and the 10th-best player in Maryland, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Howard will have two years of eligibility remaining.
