Exclusive: Hagi lined up for immediate Rangers exit as ‘gift’ for new manager

Genoa want to sign Rangers star Ianis Hagi “immediately”, Italian journalist Fabio Marsiglia has exclusively told Ibrox News.

Marsiglia, who writes for CalcioGenoa and has inside knowledge of the Serie A side, added that the 26-year-old would be a “gift” for manager Patrick Vieira, with the club wanting to secure the signing before the end of the winter transfer window.

The Romanian has informed his representatives of his desire to return to Italy, as Marsiglia tells Ibrox News how Genoa will attempt to resolve the transfer saga.

“Hagi is more than a goal for Genoa; it would be a desire of the new president Dan Sucu, who wanted to bring him to Rapid Bucharest in recent months but, knowing the player’s desire to try to get back into the game in Italy, he would like him now at Genoa, a club of which he recently became the majority shareholder.

“However, it seems that Sucu wants to buy him immediately, even for a minimal financial outlay, while the player would like to wait for the end of the contract, therefore the month of June, to decide where to go.

“In essence, Genoa’s transfer strategy in this last week of the session includes as a priority the hiring of a pure central midfielder who can give captain Milan Badelj a breather.

“If Hagi also arrived, it would be an extra ‘gift’ to provide quality and create scoring opportunities. If he doesn’t arrive now, maybe we could talk about it again in June on a free transfer.”

Rangers to anticipate Genoa bid for Ianis Hagi

The Gers have put a new contract offer on the table for Hagi to sign [David Edgar], but it is unlikely to sway the Romanian’s plans.

Although he has recently emerged as a key player under Philippe Clement, the long history of bad treatment from the Ibrox outfit is finally facing repercussions.

Given the bleak landscape in the Scottish Premiership and the growing uncertainty in the blue side of Glasgow, it would come as no surprise if Hagi no longer wishes to fight for his place.

Ianis Hagi Rangers

Genoa have less than a week to make the move happen and should be in a strong financial position to offer the Light Blues a sizeable fee for a player who will be available for free at the end of the season.

With that in mind, Nils Koppen should look to thrash out a deal as soon as possible should it become abundantly clear Hagi sees no long-term future at Ibrox.
