The Eagles’ upcoming game Sunday afternoon against the Washington Commanders at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, was already expected to be a tough, physical NFC East matchup. However, a Commanders player may have given the Eagles extra bulletin-board material after comments made during an appearance on a Washington, D.C.-based radio show
During an appearance on 106.7 The Fan, Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. discussed the game and claimed the team’s 9-5 record was misleading, saying they are the best team in the division.
Honestly, they know us, and we know them,” Robinson said. “Just going off the first time we played, we just have to control all the controllables on our end and play our best ball. Based off last game, we shot ourselves in the foot multiple times, and we feel like we are the better team. We just have to play better.”
When the two teams met Nov. 14, the Eagles came away with a 26-18 win—a game in which Robinson rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Since then, the Eagles have overtaken the Commanders for the top spot in the division and could clinch the division title with a win or a tie on Sunday.
In that first meeting, the Commanders relied heavily on their running backs and tight ends. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin, the team’s top target, finished with just one catch for 10 yards. Robinson believes the Commanders must find another way to spark their offense, and he remains confident they will succeed by being aggressive
“We’re going to do what we do, and we’re going to attack them,” Robinson said. “We’re going to go right at them. We just have to execute better than they execute. It’s going to be one of those types of games. We just have to be on top of our game from start to finish. We can’t come out playing around with them. We just have to go out there and handle our business. I feel like if we come out and do that, we will get the win.”
How the Eagles will respond remains to be seen. Typically, the team keeps quiet in situations like this and focuses on the game itself. However, Robinson’s comments will likely be mentioned on the field Sunday, adding another layer to an already storied rivalry.
