Crystal Palace are continuing to look at Championship talent in hopes of turning them from promising youngsters into Premier League gems.

Dougie Freedman certainly has a track record of doing so at Selhurst Park, picking up the likes of Eberechi Eze from QPR, Adam Wharton from Blackburn and Michael Olise from Reading – making them key players for the side.

While they have all left their mark on the first team, part of the strategy will involve looking at those who could be the next player to make that step up.

Those gems are out there still and Crystal Palace will be looking to make sure they’re the destination for those players.

Crystal Palace ready move for Millwall youngster Romain Esse

Recent reports have stated that Crystal Palace are scouting a move for Millwall Romain Esse – attending the game between his side and Luton recently.

The 19-year-old, who has started to gain more minutes for the Lions, could be one of the next stars to come through the Championship.

While it’s early days, the Eagles could step up their interest if they get the green light to secure a transfer in the months ahead.

According to Alan Nixon on his Patreon, Crystal Palace could make a move for Esse if he becomes available, though he may need more time playing in the second tier.

Esse could be Crystal Palace’s next star

While other Premier League teams may be keeping an eye, Crystal Palace could have the upper hand with their proximity to Millwall and a proven track record of bringing these players to the top level.

Esse has been compared to Eze with his traits and style of play, though his profile may be closer to that of Olise – being a left-footed right-winger who can also play as an attacking midfielder.

The 19-year-old has started all six of Millwall’s Championship matches, scoring once and picking up crucial experience

He has been a regular in the England youth setup, with his growing experience potentially seeing him climb up the ranks with the Young Lions.

Esse’s current deal runs until 2026, potentially opening up a chance to pick him up in the next year while the contract is dwindling.

Lisandro Martinez has made the headlines after his moment of madness in Crystal Palace 0-0 Manchester United on Saturday.

The Argentina international bizarrely leapt off the ground when going in to challenge Daichi Kamada for the ball, planting both feet firmly on the ground and narrowly missing the Japan international’s foot by a matter of inches.
