Beijing Slams US Lawmaker’s Request for Info on Chinese Students

Beijing, China – In a stern rebuke, China’s Foreign Ministry has condemned a request by a US lawmaker for American universities to provide information on Chinese students enrolled in science and technology programs.

The request, made by a US congressional panel, seeks data on Chinese nationals studying in the US, citing concerns over potential intellectual property theft and national security risks.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Wang Wenbin, denounced the move as “discriminatory” and “politically motivated,” stating that it “violates the principles of mutual respect and non-discrimination.”

Wang emphasized that Chinese students in the US are law-abiding and contribute positively to American society. He urged the US to “stop using education and people-to-people exchanges as a tool for political manipulation.”

The US-China Education Exchange, a non-profit organization promoting educational cooperation between the two nations, also expressed concerns over the request. “This move will only serve to harm the spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding between our nations,” said a spokesperson.

The development comes amid escalating tensions between the US and China, with issues like trade, technology, and security dominating the agenda.
