Auburn Finds Johni Broome Replacement In Transfer Portal

Johni Broome after an incredible season with the Auburn Tigers, including winning the SEC Player of the Year, now looks ahead to the NBA Draft. After losing in a heartbreaker to the Florida Gators in the Final Four, who ended up winning the national championship, the Tigers look ahead to next year. With the departure of Broome, head coach Bruce Pearl needs to address the forward position, and find someone who can attempt to fill Broome’s position. They did just that in the transfer portal by Mississippi State forward KeShawn Murphy announcing he is committing to the Tigers after averaging 11.7 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game last season. An immediate boost to the lineup, as the 6-foot-10 junior comes back to his home state where he played high school in Birmingham. It is nearly impossible to find someone with Broome’s dominance on the court, but obtaining a talent like Murphy will help vastly in rebuilding their roster this year. The Tigers currently have the No. 18 ranked recruiting class, according to On3, with three four-star freshman and two four-star transfers coming in this year. After an incredible year, Bruce Pearl is ready for next season, and is putting together quite a roster. If Tahaad Pettiford ends up coming back to school, this will be one of the deeper and more complete rosters in all of college basketball. Even without Pettiford, this team is in good hands in the back court with four-star guards Kaden Magwood and Simon Walker coming in this year. Auburn immediately is a team to watch this year, and reigning AP Coach of the Year Bruce Pearl cannot wait for what is in store.
