Steelers meeting with this college star is the final straw for Najee Harris>>>Details in Comments

The Steelers are linked to another power back that would replace Harris nicely

Arizona State v Oklahoma State

Despite numerous seasons of planning for a potent run game, the Steelers still find themselves trying to improve that unit this offseason. There should be major changes to this room in 2025 though, as Najee Harris is a free agent and is more than likely moving on.

It seems like the Steelers are planning for life after Harris based on them showing a lot of interest in Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon. For a team that lacked success at running back, Gordon looks like an interesting fit for the offense.

In essence, the Steelers would be replacing Harris with a carbon copy of himself.

Both backs profile as big power backs, weighing north of 230 pounds. That naturally comes with the sacrifice of speed, Harris struggled with long runs and Gordon doesn’t look like a speed freak. Both can also handle a full workload though.

Ollie Gordon is a good fit for the Steelers

While a lot of fans want backs that can bust off long runs with speed, a back like Gordon has a lot of value. For starters, he wouldn’t be the primary back if drafted. That role will belong to Jaylen Warren. While not a speed back himself, we have seen Warren bust off numerous big runs and do well despite missing that elite athleticism

Pairing him with a proverbial bowling ball makes sense, even if the ceiling is capped on that player. Gordon can be the thunder to Warren’s lighting and give the backfield a similar dynamic as last year. If Warren were to miss any time, Gordon could handle a full workload.

Honestly, I like Gordon a little more on tape than Harris. He played behind a far worse line in school but was still dynamic, including a huge sophomore season where he compiled over 2000 total yards. He wasn’t at that same level last year, but the talent is there to be a decent rotational back.

A slightly better athlete than Harris appears to be, one of the best things about Gordon is that he hits his holes hard and doesn’t dance around looking for space. He still needs a good line to open things up for him, but he can take what a defense gives him.

Gordon won’t cost much. Most expect him to go somewhere late on day two or even day three in this loaded running back class. While the team will have a slew of backs to choose from, the logic behind liking Gordon is there. It seems to be another nail in the coffin for Harris’s Steelers career.
