Jannik Sinner has been the standout ATP player in 2024, having won a tour-leading eight titles including two Grand Slams and the ATP Finals.
Sinner also led Italy to the Davis Cup for a second consecutive year, wrapping up the season where he has only lost six matches in style.
This success has enabled the 23-year-old to finish 2024 as World No.1, and as a result, Sinner has received the ATP Player of the Year award for the first time.
That is one of two awards that Sinner has recently received, having also been voted as the ATP ‘Fan Favourite’ for a second year in a row.
Despite all of this success, it appears that Sinner does still have some on-court regrets from the past 12 months.
Jannik Sinner details regrets from Wimbledon quarter-final defeat
One of Sinner’s six defeats in 2024 came at Wimbledon, where he lost in the quarter-finals to Daniil Medvedev in a five-set battle.
Prior to this match Sinner had won his last six meetings with Medvedev, including the Australian Open final where he came from two sets down to claim the title.
When asked about whether he had any regrets from his dominant season, Sinner picked out this match as the standout moment, “If I look back, Wimbledon is the tournament where I left the most regrets.
“I had played very well until the match with Medvedev… It went like this, our sport is unpredictable. For next year we’ll see: no one knows the future,” Sinner told Corriere Della Sera.
It was clear throughout the match with Medvedev that the Italian was not feeling his best, to which Sinner later confirmed it was related to feeling unwell due to dizziness.
However, since this loss, Sinner has turned the momentum back in his favour and gone onto beat Medvedev at the US Open, Shanghai Masters and the ATP Finals in Turin.
