Michigan Fans React to Ohio State’s Final Decision on Ryan Day

The Ohio State Buckeyes are heading into the first round of the College Football Playoff as the No. 8 seed following the program’s regular-season finale loss to the rival Michigan Wolverines.

Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines marched into Ohio Stadium and defeated the Buckeyes with a 13-10 final score, marking Ryan Day’s fourth consecutive loss in the historic college football rivalry.

Though the Buckeyes notched a 10-2 record and a College Football Playoff berth, many Ohio State fans wanted Day fired after yet another disappointing loss to Michigan.

Despite these calls, Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork has repeatedly voiced his support of Day as the program’s leader moving forward.

When asked if Day is expected to return as the Buckeyes’ head coach in 2025, Bjork gave a simple response.

“Absolutely,” he said.

“Coach Day, and I have just hit it off so well,” Bjork added on the Morning Juice podcast. “I’ve been really impressed. Every single time I talked to him, I learned something. He’s innovative. He recruits at the highest level. He’s got a great staff.”

Michigan fans took to social media with reactions to this decision.

Keep Ryan Day Forever,” one wrote.

“Me hearing the news that the Ohio State AD isn’t going to fire Ryan Day regardless of what happens in the CFP,” another added.

“As a Michigan fan, this is great news!” another said.

“Our full focus right now is on the College Football Playoff and making a strong run,” Bjork said of Day’s future right after the Michigan loss. “We have a ton to play for. We have a great team made up of talented players and great young men. Coach Day does a great job leading our program. He’s our coach.”

Day and Ohio State will face off against No. 9 seed Tennessee in the first round of the 2024 College Football Playoff on Saturday, Dec. 21 in Columbus.
