The Food and Drug Administration discovered that bacteria infiltrated over half of samples obtained from permanent cosmetic ink products and nearly a quarter from tattoo ink products, even from brands that advertised themselves as “sterile.” Their findings are just the most recent in a series of FDA tests that have revealed contamination in body inks sold in the United States. They were published in the Applied and Environmental Microbiology journal on Tuesday.
